Get to Know Ryan Sarvia
What is your current position, and what are your main responsibilities?
IT Manager. My main responsibilities are managing projects, providing technical guidance, fostering team development, identifying opportunities for process improvements, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring that IT solutions are delivered on time.
Where are you from? Taunton, MA
What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work?
Spending time with my wife and our 18-month-old son, playing guitar, and watching movies.
Can you share a bit about your career path leading up to your current role?
I worked in many different fields before finding IT, and nothing grabbed my attention or passion the way technology does. It’s ever-growing, and there are always new challenges and things to learn, keeping it fresh and exciting!
What accomplishments are you most proud of in your career?
I’m most proud of the teaching aspect of the job. Working with team members or customers to explain how something works and seeing them understand it in ways they didn’t before is always an awesome feeling. Often, I learn just as much from those I’m working with. Also, taking clients and completely migrating them to SharePoint or a new on-prem server or helping with massive internal changes is always a cool experience.
Do you have any unique skills or talents?
I’m pretty musically inclined and have an encyclopedic knowledge of useless trivia.
What’s something surprising about you that others might not know?
I could competitively eat donuts. 💯
What advice would you give to someone starting their career in this field?
Don’t forget that this job, no matter what level, is customer service. If you treat people well, come prepared, and have a positive outlook, then you will go far. The technical know-how will come, but work on your people skills.
Who has been a mentor or influence in your career, and why?
I would say Howard Wright has been the biggest influence on my career. He gave me my first shot in this field and has taken me under his wing ever since. I’ve learned so much, and much of it is due to his guidance.
